As we are all to well aware Aids is a world wide epidemic.
It featured well in the media several years ago its limelight now some what diminished; but it is still there, lurking in corners, bubbling away in the background destined never to go away until a cure is found.
Aids is an epidemic here in Indonesia and sadly in Bali too with the vast majority of cases being in the north of our island. As this is our chosen home we have determined to promote AIDS/HIV awareness.
It is quite difficult to obtain accurate numbers for aids victims but the most recent reports put the figures in Bali at around 3,000 with 90% of the disease being transmitted sexually, the remainder being contributed to drug use. Because the majority of the sufferers are not well educated and from poor social economical backgrounds the figures in fact could be much greater. Autopsies are not carried out routinely and still many cases go undiagnosed.
